Cautionary Tail Wag: Danvers Dog Saved After Falling Through Ice
The Danvers Firefighters Union Local 2038 said Hershey was rescued from the Putnamville Reservoir on Friday.
DANVERS, MA — A Danvers dog named Hershey was rescued from the freezing waters of the Putnamville Reservoir on Friday after apparently spending the night stranded on the ice and then falling through on Friday.
Danvers Firefighters Local 2038 members, local animal control and volunteers attempted to retrieve Hershey from the reservoir on Thursday night after she slipped away from her owners. Firefighters returned the next morning in cold water suits, but Hershey remained elusive on what remained of the frozen surface after apparently spending the night on the ice.
With the ice continuing to melt as temperatures soared to 60 degrees Friday morning, Hershey fell into the reservoir and firefighters were able to make their way out in the frigid water to retrieve her and bring her home.

"Reminder!" Local 2038 said in a Facebook post. "While everyone is enjoying the spring-like temperature, please keep in mind the ice on local ponds is not safe! This pooch found out the hard way."
The union said it was happy to report that Hershey was "home, resting and warming up" on Friday.
