Danvers DPW News: Earth Day Zero Waste Weekend For Residents
Residents will be able to recycle all types of items, and wil be able to purchase compost bins and rain barrels at discounted prices.

Danvers town officials plan to celebrate Earth Day by offering residents a two-day event where they can recycle a variety of items not collected by curbside pickup.
Danvers Department of Public Works Earth Day Zero Waste Weekend will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 2 and 3 at the Danvers High School parking lot, 60 Cabot Road.
- Residents may bring bagged clothing, shoes, purses, linens, stuffed animals and small toys for Big Brother Big Sister.
- XTechnology Global will collect electronics including televisions and computer monitors ($15 for 20-inch monitors (measured diagonally), $25 for monitors over 20-inches; air conditioners and dehumidifiers ($5 each); computers ($3 each). Cell phones, laptops and all other small electronics are free. Certificates of Destruction are also available ($5 each). Fees are payable by cash or check. XTech will donate a portion of the money collected to the Danvers Community Council.
- Big Hearted Books will collect books, DVDs, CDs, video games and records, but no VHS tapes, audio tapes, magazines or encyclopedias will be accepted.
- JRM will shred up to two boxes of your confidential papers (there is a $5.00 charge for subsequent boxes). JRM will donate all money to the Danvers Community Council.
- Metal items (file cabinets, grills, bicycles, hangers, appliances, patio furniture, curtain rods, doors, ironing boards, ladders, etc.) will be collected for recycling by the town The town will also collect rigid plastics (trash barrels, buckets, tubs, bins, outdoor furniture, toys, etc.).
SATURDAY ONLY! Cub Scout Pack 16 will be collecting redeemable bottles & cans.

Thanks to funding from the Sustainable Materials and Recovery Program Grant, Danvers will offer residents compost bins for a discounted price of $30. Rain barrels will also be available for purchase at a discounted rate of $30, as a result of the Water Use Mitigation Program. Residents can purchase these items at the event with a check made out to the Town of Danvers. Cash will be accepted. Limited number; first-come, first-served; no pre-orders.
