Danvers High Sophomore Wins Key Off and New Used Car

James English, a sophomore, won this year's key off and a certified pre-owned Honda Civic from Volvo Village as part of the Keys to Success program.

It took 50 tries and then some Thursday afternoon before James English got the lucky key and won his own certified pre-owned Honda Civic from Volvo Village in Danvers.

The 16-year-old Danvers High sophomore, who doesn't actually have his license yet, was one of 50 students to participate in the annual Key Off to close out this year's Keys to Success program with Village Automotive Group.

English said he was just excited to win and couldn't believe his luck. He said he received his KeyCard during the year for academic excellence.

Village Automotive Group President Ray Ciccolo was on hand himself for this Key Off and noted his niece actually graduated from Danvers High a couple years ago and was similarly excited then to participate in the Key Off.

A total of 104 students received those KeyCards and then 50 finalists were selected to compete in the Key Off, which was held out in Deering Stadium on Thursday.

All 50 students tried the keys they had received, but one student didn't turn the wheel, press the brake or turn the key far enough the first time, ultimately leaving English with the lucky key once they were redistributed for another round of attempts.

Dallas Masters also was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Salem State University.
