Danvers Holds Line On Electric Rates Through End Of 2022
The Municipal Light Board determined there will be no increase in rates for the rest of the year at its most recent board meeting.
DANVERS, MA — As utility rates rise in many communities across the state this summer and fall, Danvers residents will be getting a respite from the increases — at least in the short term — after the Municipal Light Board decided to hold prices at their current levels through the end of 2022.
The Board said Danvers rates are about one-third lower than those of an average Massachusetts electric customer and the decision was made in an effort to strive for financial prudence as well as sustainable management.
"As a public utility, we are proud to offer our electric customers steady rates," Director of Public Works and Utilities David Lane said. "Danvers Electric staff and the Board will be closely monitoring market conditions along with the high cost of fuel and supplies that is currently being experienced.

"Although a rate increase is not needed at this time, a full review of the budget, costs and revenue will be completed again in September."
Lane said rates are based on the cost of purchasing and delivering power to Danvers customers as well as funds needed to maintain and improve infrastructure plus operational costs.
