Danvers Police Alert Residents To 'Senior Assassin' Student Ambush Game
Police warned participants to obey all laws and be considerate of fellow residents not familiar with the water gun target contest.
DANVERS, MA — Danvers police are urging caution among student participants in a so-called "Senior Assassin" game to obey all laws and to be considerate of fellow residents who may be unaware of the contest in which students look to "assassinate" their targets using a water gun.
Police said the game is not school=sponsored and is not condoned by local police.
The game, which has gained popularity through social media, involves students being assigned a specific "target" that they must look to "eliminate" using a water gun or similar target.

The last remaining participant wins a prize.
"While meant to be lighthearted, the game frequently takes place in public areas such as neighborhoods, parking lots, and local businesses, which can understandably cause concern for those unaware of what’s happening," police said. "We want you to enjoy your senior year, but safety must come first."

Police urge those participating to drive safely and not be distracted while participating, and understand that not everyone is aware of the game being played.
"Avoid any actions or items that could be perceived as a real threat," police said. "Use only brightly colored water guns that are clearly identifiable as toys.
"If the police do come, please don’t run or hide. Explain to the officers what is happening and cooperate if they ask you to stop."
Police said parents are "strongly" encouraged to speak with children who might be involved about the importance of making safe, responsible decisions.
