Essex County Sheriff and Lieutenant Honored for Supporting Military
Sheriff Cousins and Lieutenant Stephen Driscoll both received the Patriotic Employer Award from U.S. Department of Defense.

Sheriff Frank E. Cousins and Lieutenant Stephen T. Driscoll of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department have been honored for their support of correctional officer David Mangold, a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Sheriff Cousins and Lieutenant Driscoll were presented with the Patriotic Employer Award from the U.S. Department of Defense at the Sheriff’s Office Dec. 30.
The award comes from the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve which aims to “promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.”

ESGR Area Chair George Charos presented the awards to Sheriff Cousins and Lieutenant Driscoll. Charos thanked both men for their support and said to Sheriff Cousins, “The culture you have created should be commended.”
According to the ESGR website, “The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.”

Officer Mangold, who nominated both Sheriff Cousins and Lieutenant Driscoll for the award, is assigned to the 338th Engineer Company out of Somersworth, NH. The unit is scheduled to be deployed in January 2015.
