Getting to Know Your DSLR
Digital SLRs can be set to P (Program) mode and will often work quite well on this automatic setting, but doing so strips the photographer of the control that justifies the purchase of a DSLR in the first place. These 3 classes are designed to empower the DSLR owner to take charge of the camera by overriding automatic setting in favor of creative control. Classes are both didactic and hands-on, and home assignments leading to workshop critiques will further your skills.
Class 1 will begin by discussing camera, lens and gear choices. Basic camera operation follows as we explore the primary settings that affect exposure, color and focus. Hands-on activities with your DSLR will illustrate the ways that camera settings change images.
Class 2 will begin by looking at images made using the techniques discussed previously and then progress to working in situations that challenge the camera’s ability to automatically generate a good image.
In our final class, we will look at modifying existing light to better our images using simple light modifiers and utilizing flash.
If you do not yet own a DSLR, you can rent one for the length of the course for only $75- a great way to "try before you buy".
