Girls Soccer Celebrates Senior Night Success Against Salem [IMAGES]

The Danvers varsity girls soccer team hosted Salem on Tuesday evening, defeating them 4-0.

The Girls Varsity Soccer team tied Salem very early in the season. Tuesday night, on Senior night, the team righted that wrong with a 4-0 win over the witches.  The night started out with a tribute to the 11 seniors on the Falcon squad with introductions, flowers and pictures with parents being taken. All 10 senior players started the game and care out on fire against Salem. Danvers got on the score board in the 16th minute on an unassisted corner kick goal by senior Kylie Kellard. Danvers doubled their lead 9 minutes later on another unassisted corner kick goal, this time by senior captain Corey Persson.

Danvers took the 2-0 lead into halftime. "Although we didn't score during the run of play in the first half, we kept the ball in the Salem end and put lots of pressure on their defense," said Hinchion.

Coery Persson scored 2 more times in the first 5 minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach. With her third goal, Persson broke the all time Danvers scoring record, previously held by Brittany Russo. Corey currently has 103 goals and 37 assists for 140 points. "That's quite an achievement. I'm very proud of the 4 years Corey has put together here at D.H.S. She's been a great team player and has scored or assisted on many huge goals over that 4 year span."

Senior Mia Koutoulas only had to make 2 saves on the night to post the shutout.  Coach Hinchion mentioned the excellent play of defender Kristin Yost, midfielder Rebecca Vazquez and forward Courtney Arnoldy.

"This was a great night for our seniors. I'm very happy for them. They've all made an impact on our team and the program over the past 4 years."
