GoFundMe Campaign Aims to Help Lamar Family of Danvers

The Lamars recently lost their 2-year-old Griffin in a pool accident,

DANVERS, MA — In the wake of their terrible loss, the Lamar family is hoping to honor their 2-year-old son with a new fund to support families that want to adopt.

Earlier this month, 2-year-old Griffin Lamar died after he was found unresponsive in a pool at his house.

"For two years, Griffin brought joy to his two sisters, his loving parents, the Halsted and Lamar families, and his large extended network of family and friends. Griffin’s life was itself a gift," Matt Smith wrote on GoFundMe.

To honor Griffin's memory, the Lamar family has decided to support the cause that brought the young boy into their family: adoption.

"People are generally unaware of the enormous financial hurdles that individuals must jump over in order to adopt a child. Tens of thousands of dollars are paid out even before a child is carried through the front door. These hurdles can often prevent the adoption process from happening, as well-meaning, would-be parents are unable to afford the initial costs," Smith wrote.

Griffin's Gift aims to help families with the financial component of the adoption process. As of Monday night, the fund has raised nearly $24,000 of it's $50,000 goal.
