Green Elephant Toy Store Going Out of Business
Classic toy store in Danvers Square shutting its doors at the end of September

After three years, it’s time for the Green Elephant Toy Store in downtown Danvers to say goodbye, and thank you, to the community.
“We’re really, really going to miss Danvers,” said Andrew Schylling, owner of the toy business. ”We’re sad to be leaving.”
Scylling said the Green Elephant in Danvers will close on Sept. 30. The Green Elephant Toy Store in Ipswich will remain.

The decision to close the store for good on Sept. 30 was made with a combination of factors in mind.
“It’s really tough for brick-and-mortar stores,” Schylling said. He said big box retailers and online shopping sites such as Amazon made it tough to compete.

The store-front was on Elm Street on the historic Fossa block.
Everything in the store is 50 percent off, Schylling said. The store is open from 9;30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
“I have a lot of emotion,” Schylling said. “And exhaustion. I just want to emphasize we are just really grateful to the community here.”
