Kids perform play in Spanish to Thorpe School student body and parents.
After , and delays from snow days, Thorpe School second-graders performed a play based on a Latin-American legend on Thursday. The performance of "Los Names No Hablan (Yams Don't Talk)" was entirely spoken in Spanish.
The second-graders learned vocabulary and in general what a legend is and particularly this Cuban legend. They performed their parts seamlessly as though they had been studying Spanish for years.
The Cuban legend is about a sly turtle who moves in to live underneath the house of a young couple. The couple has a large crop of yams and when they hear the turtles talking, they think it’s the yams and are frightened. It takes the most knowledgeable and bravest in the land to prove that yams don't talk!
