DANVERS, MA — Danvers School Committee member Jeffrey Kay has resigned from his position on the committee.

The School Committee released a statement on Wednesday thanking Kay for his "long service to the town" and detailing the process for filling the opening.

Kay told Patch he stepped down because he is selling his Danvers house and will be moving out of town — at least temporarily — but that he hopes to remain on the North Shore.

"I've loved the time," he told Patch of his School Committee tenure. "I would have loved to have stayed. This was just the right time to do it."

The School Committee said the process of replacing Kay for the remainder of his term will begin immediately with interested candidates asked to complete an application here.

Interviews will take place at the School Committee meeting on Oct. 24 with a successor set to be chosen that night.

Application forms are due on Oct. 17.

"We wish to thank all persons, in advance, who are interested in serving Danvers as a member of the School Committee and look forward to what we hope will be a lively and interesting process," the School Committee said.
