Lady Falcons' Season Comes to An End

Danvers Girls Soccer was defeated yesterday 4-1 to Stoneham.

The Danvers Girls Soccer Team's season came to an end Monday afternoon in a 4-1 loss to # 2 seed Stoneham.  The Falcons came out very flat and found themselves in a 2-0 hole after only 9 minutes.  The Danvers team struggled to adjust to Stoneham's aggressive defense and team speed.

"We just didn't play well today. We came out very slow and made some mistakes in our own end.  Being down 2-0 that early in the game is a big hole to climb out of," said Coach Hinchion.

Danvers just missed cutting the lead in half after half time when senior Corey Persson fed a through ball to classmate Kelsey O'Brien.  O'Brien's shot missed just wide.  The Falcons played better in the second half and eventually it paid off when junior Chrissy Gikas banged home a Shannon Pohle shot rolling across the goal line.  Gikas's first goal of the year looked as though that might have been the break the Falcons needed, but only 1 minute later, Stoneham answered with their third goal.

"That third goal was the back breaker. We had just gotten back into the game and then we give up another goal," Hinchion said.

Stoneham added a 4th goal in the final minutes with Danvers pressing and pushing everyone forward. The Falcons ended their season with a 12 - 6 - 2 record. They'll graduate 11 seniors from this year's squad.

"The girls put together a great season. They played against very tough competition and played hard every game. Our seniors will surely be missed."
