Memorial Day: Parade, Ceremony, Baseball and Softball
Today is Memorial Day. The Police Department says motorists should expect delays and temporary road closures in the areas of Town Hall and Danvers Square this morning during the parade from 9-10 a.m.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily source for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Monday, May 27.
- Danvers High baseball hosts St. John's Prep today at Plains Park. The game was postponed from Saturday and the start time is 5 p.m. today. The season closer will see the Falcons and Eagles both poised with 18-1 records. Both teams suffered narrow defeats early in the season to league rivals: Peabody (Danvers) and Xaverian Brothers (the Prep).
- Rain again postponed the Courtney Corning Memorial Softball Tournament yesterday (it was supposed to start Saturday) and it will now get underway this morning at 9 a.m. at Endicott College. The Danvers girls are slated to play first against Beverly at 9 a.m. Peabody then plays Bishop Fenwick at 11 a.m., opening ceremonies are after the second game, the consolation game is at 1 p.m. and the championship contest is at 3 p.m.
- Parade: The town's annual Memorial Day parade steps off at 9 a.m. at Town Hall, followed by ceremonies back at Town Hall at approximately 10 a.m. The Police Department says motorists should expect delays and temporary road closures in the areas of Town Hall and Danvers Square.
- Children's Room is open again: The renovations downstairs in the Children's Room of the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers are now complete and the room is back open for kids...just not today. The library is closed for the holiday and will reopen tomorrow.
- What's open, what's not: You can find a general list of businesses and places that will be closed today in observance of the holiday and ones that will still be open.
Here's a sixth item to know: Panini Pizzeria over at the corner of Cherry and Maple streets says it's sending a team to the 23rd Annual North Shore Cancer Walk on June 23. The 10K (6.2-mile) walk is sponsored by North Shore Medical Center and held in Salem. You can donate to the Panini team here.
