DANVERS, MA — More than 50 percent of Danvers residents have already cast their ballot as remaining residents looking to vote in the Nov. 3 general election head to the polls or drop off mail-in ballots on Tuesday.

Danvers Town Clerk Catherine Ellsworth said that as of Monday morning 53.1 percent of registered voters in the town had voted through mail-in ballots or early voting in the Toomey Room at Danvers Town Hall.

Out of 21,433 registered voters, she said 6,324 returned mail-in ballots via mail or drop off boxes, while 5,052 cast a ballot during the 14 days of early voting.

"Early voting went incredibly well," Ellsworth told Patch. "Voters seemed well-prepared when they came in and happily voting how they are most comfortable — whether that be at home and returning their ballot by email or drop box, going in-person early voting or deciding to appear at the polls on Election Day."

Ellsworth said her office worked with the Danvers Department of Public Works to create a one-way traffic flow for people to enter and exit Danvers Town Hall and that there was signage, markings on the floor, hand sanitizer on the way in and out, and periodic cleaning of voting booths and marking pens.

All voters and workers were required to wear a mask while inside the building.

Mail-in voters looking to track their ballot can do so here.

Ellsworth said ballots placed in the town's ballot drop by by 5 p.m. on Tuesday will be processed at the polls on Election Day. She said ballots placed in the drop box between 5:01 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be counted on Nov. 10.

Polls at Danvers High School are open until 8 p.m. so those arriving after 5 p.m. will have the option to vote in person and have their vote counted that night, if they choose.

The ballot box will be emptied for a final time at 8 p.m. on Election Night with no additional ballots accepted after that.
