DANVERS, MA — Danvers residents should expect their new trash and recycling bins to arrive next week as the town transitions to the automated service and bi-weekly recycling.

The 95-gallon recycling carts are "single stream" and means sorting items is no longer necessary.

While a vote of town meeting approved nearly $1 million in "free cash" to purchase the new 64-gallon trash and 95-gallon recycling bins needed for the new automated system, town officials said on Thursday that a grant from The Recycling Partnership, with support from American Beverage and the Massachusetts Beverage Association, was helping to provide the 8,000 recycling carts and funding for education and outreach on the program.

Items recyclable in the new carts include glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, paper products — including newspapers and flattened cardboard — and empty plastic bottles and containers. Residents are asked to rinse food and drink containers and place them directly into the cart.

Items not eligible for recycling include plastic bags, paper towels, electrical equipment, batteries and clothing.
