North Shore Mass Vaccination Site Returns To Danvers

DANVERS, MA — A coronavirus mass vaccination redux is coming to Danvers.

Only this time, the massive crunch of frustration and frenzy that accompanied the opening of the original mass vaccination site at the Danvers DoubleTree Hotel in February should be replaced with the more measured approach of those eligible coming to one of four booster mass vaccination sites at North Shore Community College.

The site at 1 Ferncroft Road will join sites in Brockton, Lowell and Springfield and will offer up to 1,000 daily doses of Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson booster shots to those eligible.

The Baker administration said on Friday the Danvers site will also offer primary doses. Just like in the winter in spring, appointments will be available through state vaxfinder site here but this time walk-ins will also be accepted from the day it opens on Wednesday.

Boosters are free and no identification or insurance card is required. Language translation services will be available on site.

Transformative Healthcare will serve as the provider for this clinic. Curative ran the original Danvers mass vaccination site.

The site at the Shaw's Center on Feinberg Way in Brockton will open the same day.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Wallensky signed off on the second-and third-dose booster shots late Thursday for those eligible.

Currently, those eligible for another shot of Moderna or Pfizer are those who are at least six months removed from their second does, are 65 years or older, live in long-term care settings, have underlying medical conditions or work or live in high-risk settings.

Anyone who received a Johnson & Johnson shot at least two months ago is immediately eligible for a booster.

CDC guidance has also authorized the "mixing" of vaccines — meaning that you don't have to get the same vaccine you did originally. In the case of the Danvers mass vaccination site, that allows those who received a Johnson & Johnson shot at least two months ago to get a Pfizer shot this time around.
