Palliative Care of the North Shore & Greater Boston Expands Outpatient Services

Consultations for complex symptom management and quality of life issues for patients with serious illness

Palliative Care of the North Shore & Greater Boston (PCNSGB), a division of Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston (HNSGB), has expanded its outpatient services to respond to growing patient demand. Palliative care is specialized medical care focused on improving quality of life for people with serious illnesses, such as cancer, dementia, cardiac or respiratory disease.

“Palliative care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses and other specialists who work with a patient’s physician to provide patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress from a serious illness,” explained Robert Warren, M.D., Medical Director for Palliative Care of the North Shore & Greater Boston. Palliative care is appropriate at any age and at any time in a serious illness. Consultations typically include discussions of quality of life issues, advance care planning, and an evaluation of complex pain and symptom management.

Wellesley: 70 Walnut Street, Suite 301

Danvers: Danvers Family Doctors, 140 Commonwealth Avenue, Suite 202

Danvers: Beverly Hospital at Danvers, 480 Maple Street, Suite 201

Home visits will still be available for frail patients who are homebound. Palliative care consultations are covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Anyone can request a palliative care consultation by calling 888-283-1433.
