Police Called to Cemetery for Person Stealing Flowers

They were pansies, in fact, and worth about $50, according to police.

Danvers police were called to St. Mary of the Annunciation Cemetery on Hobart Street Thursday afternoon on a report that someone was stealing flowers from the burial ground.

Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Bettencourt said Friday the incident report was still in progress, but it appeared the suspect was an adult who was spotted plucking pansies worth about $50.

According to the initial press log entry, officer Phil Tansey responded to the scene at 4:02 p.m. and subsequently issued a court summons to the suspect.

Bettencourt said Friday, however, that it wasn't clear whether the matter had been resolved and the charge dropped or if there was still a criminal charge being filed.
