Sacco to Be Feted for Promoting Equity, Social Justice
St. John's Prep school counselor Nancy Sacco will receive special recognition from the school for her efforts on equity and social justice Tuesday night during the Prep's annual Martin Luther King Dinner.

The school community at is honoring Nancy Sacco, a school counselor, at an annual dinner Tuesday night in memory of Martin Luther King Jr. for her [Sacco] work to “promote equity and social justice.”
An announcement from St. John’s lauds Sacco, a Lynn resident, for having a “vital” role in those two endeavors since joining the counseling staff in 1998.
“Nancy has been a true champion of social justice, serving St. John’s with humility, compassion and a desire for all members of the community to experience justice and equality,” said Roberto German, the director of multicultural affairs and community development at the Prep.

Sacco started up a student mentor program that focused on appreciating community diversity and initiated the Prep’s involvement in a series of workshops offered by Salem State University – Race, Culture and Ethnicity – that engages high school students in efforts to reverse racist trends in their own schools and in their hometowns. Sacco is also involved with the Prep's Community of Concern, which focuses on substance abuse prevention via parent and staff education, peer support and curriculum development.
The second annual St. John's Prep is Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Milano Dining Room of Memorial Dining Hall on campus. The public invited to attend. Tickets are $10 each, which includes dinner, remarks by student speakers and musical entertainment by the St. John’s Jazz Combo. Tickets can be purchased online and donations to the Ray Carey Diversity Fund may be made online as well.

The first honoree was Ray Carey, Class of 1967, a longtime cross country and track coach and a former teacher at St. John's.
