Shoplifters, Lightning Strikes and Man Trips and Stabs Himself

The following are excerpts from reports in the Danvers Police Department press log from June 23-25.
Sunday, June 23
- 5:58 p.m. Report of a larceny at a Riverside Avenue apartment.
- 6:30 p.m. Report of a shoplifting at Target. A male was issued a court summons.
- 8:57 p.m. Report of fireworks on Andrew Street.
Monday, June 24
- 8:17 a.m. Report of a power line down on Elm Street.
- 9:21 a.m. Report of a car break-in on Walter Road.
- 11:18 a.m. Report of a larceny at a Rice Street home.
- 12:44 p.m. Report of a larceny from a car at Danvers High School.
- 1:55 p.m. An employee at the Dunkin' Donuts at 79 Andover St. reported receiving counterfeit bills.
- 2:22 p.m. Four 15-year-old females from Beverly were issued court summonses for larceny over $250, following a report of shoplifters at Kohl's. Police said the teens entered the dressing rooms and stuffed several hundred dollars worth of merchandise into their purses. They were then detained by store security when they tried to leave.
- 2:28 p.m. Frank McCusker, 34, of Everett, was arrested, following a report of a shoplifting at Walmart. Police said razors and a bottle of Coke were stolen; however, McCusker was only charged on an outstanding default warrant out of Malden District Court.
- 3:37 p.m. Jay Hogan, 23, of 9 Flint St., Lynn, was arrested, following a report of an unwanted guest at the Liberty Tree Mall. He was charged on a warrant.
- 3:44 p.m. Report of suspicious activity at a Poplar Street home. Police said arrows were found in the yard.
- 4:47 p.m. Report of an unwanted guest at the Extended Stay Hotel. Police said there was an incident involving a male and a female and an arrest was made. No further details were available yet.
- 5:33 p.m. Report of malicious damage to a residence on Colby Road. Police said the glass on the front door was damaged.
- 6:17 p.m. A 47-year-old Florida man was placed into protective custody, following a report of an intoxicated person at Berry Hall at the Essex Agricultural & Technical School.
- 6:44 p.m. Report of a wire down on Liberty Street.
- 7:18 p.m. Report of a tree and wires knocked down at the corner of Maple Street and Truche Way.
- 7:22 p.m. Report of a tree and wires knocked down at the corner of Maple and Forest streets.
- 7:25 p.m. A caller reported a pole was "swaying a lot" on Hobart Street.
- 8:15 p.m. The Fire Department responded to a report of lightning striking the ground next to the new Ira Toyota dealership on Rt. 114 (161 Andover St.) and starting a fire outside the building.
- 8:19 p.m. Report of a tree down in the roadway on Centre Street.
- 8:30 p.m. Police units were cleared from the scene on Maple Street. Police said officers had been on detail for approximately an hour with the road closed after trees and wires were knocked down in a thunderstorm.
Tuesday, June 25
- 4:34 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a possible stabbing at Motel 6. Police said a male was actually running with a knife when he fell and stabbed himself by accident. The person suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
- 6:52 a.m. Report of threatening text messages at Motel 6.
- 9:52 a.m. Report of malicious damage to a residence on Walnut Street. Police said BBs were shot at a window.
- 12:02 p.m. Joe Juarez, 39, of Cureo, Texas, was arrested, following a motor vehicle accident on Route 1. He was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to use care in backing, starting, stopping or turning.
