DANVERS, MA — While the North Shore has mostly escaped snow thus far this winter, cold weather and winter storms are almost surely on the horizon.

With that in mind, Danvers residents are reminded of some town ordinances and responsibilities to keep folks safe and roads clear over the next few months.

The town has a snow emergency policy that requires all vehicles to be off of town streets during a snow emergency. Details of the snow emergency procedures can be found here. Residents are encouraged to seek off-street parking during the winter even when a snow emergency has not been called.

The Department of Public Works also reminds residents that basketball hoops and nets must be removed from streets and utility poles where they can be damaged during plowing activities and extreme weather conditions.

Residents are asked to clear hydrants and catch basins from snow when shoveling. Residents should never put sand or salt in storm drains to clear them as that leads into water supplies.

The shoveling of snow into the street, across a street, or onto a sidewalk is not allowed.

Town ordinances state that it is up to property owners to keep the sidewalks in front of their houses or businesses clear of obstacles. Property owners should clear those areas of snow in a storm and prune trees and plants to allow for passage.

Winter potholes pop up every season. Residents can report them to the Danvers DPW here.

Residents with questions and concerns are asked to call the DPW at 978-777-0001 Ext. 3011 or email them to danversdpw@danversma.gov.
