Town Warns Homeowners of Scam Involving Property Deeds
Danvers residents have been receiving fake notices in the mail, report town officials.
If you see this notice in the mail, be aware that it's a scam, say town officials.
"We’ve been made aware by residents that people have been receiving the attached notice, asking people to send in $83 to take care of an alleged deed issue involving their property," said Town Manager Wayne Marquis in a recent notice sent to local media outets.
"We’re trying to get the word out that this is a scam and people should not respond and definitely should not send money," he said.

Danvers police also issued a notice, alerting residents to the scam. They said the town is in no way affiliated with "Property Transfer Services" out of Delaware.
The letter recommends that homeowners obtain a copy of their current deed and is designed to appear as a bill that would cost $83 for a copy of the deed to be mailed to the person's home.

Police point out instead that homeowners can obtain a copy of that deed, free of charge, from the Essex County Registry of Deeds. Visit www.salemdeeds.com for more information.
