DANVERS, MA -- Danvers Firefighters were able to rescue a deer that was trapped on thin ice on Putnamville Reservoir Thursday. Danvers Firefighters IAFF Local 2038 posted videos of the rescue on its Facebook page following the deer's safe return to shore.
Firefighters wearing cold water rescue suits worked their way to the deer, which was trapped about 300 feet off shore. The deer and firefighters were dragged to shore using tether lines. The video above shows the deer's safe return to shore. The video below shows the deer being carried to the treeline and released.
"Ice rescue of any type is always a dangerous operation. Danvers Firefighters train regularly to prepare for situations just like this. Today that training paid off," the union wrote on its Facebook page.
