100+ People to Form Human Chain to Protest Construction of New Natural Gas Pipeline

100+ people will form a colorful human chain at the Dedham-Boston city line Sunday to protest the West Roxbury Lateral gas pipeline.

With construction already underway on the controversial West Roxbury Lateral gas pipeline, 100+ Dedham and West Roxbury community members will demonstrate their continued opposition to the pipeline by marching along the route on Sunday. Upon reaching the Dedham-Boston city line, participants will form a human chain connected by stretches of red ribbon to symbolize the united resistance of the two communities to the pipeline.

A worship service led by local clergy and a short rally will precede the march.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently approved the construction of Spectra Energy’s Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) project. AIM includes the construction of a natural gas pipeline lateral through Dedham and West Roxbury, ending across the street from a blasting quarry. City Councillor Matt O’Malley, Mayor Marty Walsh, Representative Stephen Lynch, and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey have all come out in opposition to the project. On June 18th, Mike Butler, Dedham Town Selectman, was arrested to protest the pipeline’s construction.
