Acclaimed Graphic Novelist & Artist Gareth Hinds to Share New Edgar Allan Poe Adaptation at Blue Bunny Books

Free Reading, Art Demo & Book Signing Event for All Ages Set for Friday, September 22, 6:30pm

DEDHAM, MA— No matter what your age, if you’re a fan of Edgar Allan Poe or the graphic novel format, you’ll want to brave the stormy weather to meet acclaimed Graphic Novelist and Artist Gareth Hinds. Hinds is once again returning to The Blue Bunny Bookstore in Dedham Square this Friday evening, September 22, at 6:30 p.m. to celebrate "POE: STORIES AND POEMS," his brand new adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s best-known works in graphic-novel format, published by Somerville-based Candlewick Press. Hinds will read from his new work, share a short presentation, entertain the audience with a drawing demo, and be available to sign these first edition copies of the book.

Gareth Hinds is the creator of critically-acclaimed graphic novels based on literary classics, including Beowulf (which Publisher’s Weekly called a “mixed-media gem”), King Lear (which Booklist named one of the top 10 graphic novels for teens), The Merchant of Venice, which Kirkus called “the standard that all others will strive to meet” for Shakespeare adaptation, The Odyssey, which garnered four starred reviews and a spot on ten "best of 2010" lists, Romeo and Juliet, which Kirkus called "spellbinding", and Macbeth, which the New York Times called "stellar" and "a remarkably faithful rendering". Gareth is a recipient of the Boston Public Library’s Literary Lights for Children Award. His books can be found in bookstores and English classrooms across the country, and his illustrations have appeared in such diverse venues as the Society of Illustrators, the New York Historical Society, and over a dozen published video games.

Hinds’ new work POE: STORIES AND POEMS is already garnering head-turning, critical praise. The new book earned a coveted STARRED review from School Library Journal, which noted, “Hinds adds to his impressive library of graphic novel adaptations with this collection of stories and poems . . . A spellbinding adaptation of one of America’s most legendary authors. This volume can easily be worked into literature courses and is a fantastic way to introduce Poe to new readers.”

Kirkus Review, one of the publishing industry’s leading reviewers describes POE as, “Befittingly dark, atmospheric, and evocative.” Even The Wall Street Journal chimed in, calling POE, “Brilliant and terrifying, this collection shows in pictures much of what Poe revealed only through words.”
