While wearing a helmet is the law for cyclists 16 years old and younger, cyclists of all ages can help protect themselves by wearing a helmet which properly fits and meets safety standards.

By wearing a helmet, cyclists reduce their chance for head injury by 50 percent, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Other studies have shown it provides even more protection so it is important to wear one every time you ride a bicycle.
