A Call for Artists
Several community organizations put out a call for artists to participate in their upcoming events.
Artists are in high demand this month as several community organizations have opportunities for artists of all levels.
Art in Bloom 2019, sponsored by the Friends of the Dedham Public Library and the Dedham Artist Guild, are looking for participants. This is an open theme exhibit and artwork can be in the following categories: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Pieces must be no larger than 18 x 24 inches framed. There is a $25 entry fee which allows you to enter up to two pieces. Middle and High School students can enter at no charge. Applications for the event are available at both library branches or by emailing friends.dedhamlibrary@gmail.com. The deadline to enter is Friday, March 29th. Dedham Civic Pride is also looking for artists for their Flower Pot Painting Project which will transform four of their black pots into interpretive works. There is a $200 stipend for the artists whose designs are chosen to go on the pots. The deadline to apply is April 5; applications are available by emailing dedhamcivicpride@gmail.com.
And finally, local photographers are invited to join the "Good Creature in Your Life" Photo Contest which is part of Dedham Reads, a Dedham Library Innovation Team program. This year the Dedham Reads book is "How to Be a Good Creature" by Sy Montgomery. The book chronicles the animals in her life, how they affected those around them, and what she learned from them. If you had or have a good creature in your life, you can submit your photo and a 300 word blurb about your good creature. Photos and narratives can be sent to goodcreaturephoto@gmail.com.
