Cheers to a Classic Tropical Drink: The Bahama Mama

This fun tropical drink to shake up on date night.

As I write this, it is 75 degrees and sunny in the Bahamas! The high will be 80 degrees today and more of the same for the next several days.

Unfortunately, I’m writing this in the basement of my Dedham house and it’s just a daydream in my head. A girl can dream and surf the Internet, right?

Considering the unusually mild winter we’ve had, it’s not too hard to imagine warm beaches and tropical weather. Like the Shumway’s, (movie night is No. 2 on), we also enjoy movie night at home. It’s exciting to try a new recipe for dinner or to bake a new dessert and sometimes it’s nice to shake up a new cocktail to sip during movie night.

So sit back relax and sip this classic, refreshing tropical cocktail during date night in! Note: I went with the non-slush version. Just use a shaker or pitcher to stir and serve over ice.

Ingredients:

0.5 oz rum (151 proof is the classic rum for this drink)
0.5 oz coconut-flavored rum (I used Parrot Bay)
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
0.5 oz grenadine

Directions:

Blend the coconut-flavored rum and the regular rum, the grenadine syrup and the juices, along with about a cup of ice cubes in a blender until slushy.

Pour into a glass and enjoy!
