Dedham High School celebrates Computer Science Education Week December 7, 2015 to December 13, 2015

PRESS RELEASE

DECEMBER 11, 2015

In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, December 7, 2015 to December 13, 2015, the Dedham Public Schools participated in the “Hour of Code”. Hour of Code is an introduction to computer science designed to demystify computing code and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, creator, and an innovator. More than 120 educators across Massachusetts organized activates with classrooms and schools during this week. Students received buttons for participating and the experience of teaching others. Over 1,000 Dedham students participated in coding using the free website, www.code.org.
Computer Science Education Week is dedicated to showing students of all ages the importance of computer science and to introducing them to computational thinking. It is organized by the Computing in the Core Coalition and Code.org in Early December each year to recognize the birthday of computing pioneer, Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, born on Dec 9, 1906. This year, the Commonwealth Alliance for Information Technology Education (CAITE) and the MassTLC Education Foundation have provided buttons and posters to encourage schools and organizations in Massachusetts to participate and engage as many students as possible in computer science and coding activities.
