This week Dedham Civic Pride planted two more trees to continue their work of greening up Dedham.

A sour cherry tree was planted at the Middle School by the flagpole and memorial area on Whiting Ave. The sour cherry tree will flower in the spring and can grow up to 15 feet high.

The second tree, a blooming apple tree, was planted on the Sponsor-A-Spot site entering Greenlodge. This Sponsor-A-Spot area is underwritten by Willard and Company, specializing in roofing and carpentry. Founded in 1873, Willard Company was incorporated under its parent company, Boston Lightning Rod Company in 1911. Located in Dedham, Massachusetts, they are known for their exceptional service throughout the greater Boston area and have over a century of combined experience and commitment. Willard and Company have sponsored the site at the corner of Greenlodge and Sprague streets for many years.

As the biggest plants on the planet, trees are vital to the survival of the earth and those living on the plant. Trees and shrubs improve soil and water conservation, store carbon, moderate local climate by providing shade, regulate temperature extremes, increase wildlife habitat, and improve the land's capacity to adapt to climate change.

According to the town of Dedham website, Dedham is designated as a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation, which is a designation demonstrating the extent to which the community cares about its environment and the quality of life. Civic Pride is proud to be able to assist in making Dedham a “Tree City”.
