Residents who have an interest in conservation, environmental protection, or open space may be interested in the volunteer opportunities with the Conservation Commission or Open Space Advisory Committee.

The Conservation Commission needs one new member to serve an unexpired term through 2022. Open Space needs three volunteers who may serve 3-year terms that expire in 2023.

Conservation Commission members are responsible for protecting the wetlands, related water resources and adjoining land areas in the Town of Dedham, including public or private water supply, groundwater, flood control, erosion and sedimentation control, storm damage prevention, water pollution prevention, fisheries, shellfish, vernal pools, wildlife habitat, recreation, aesthetics, agriculture and aquaculture values.

The Open Space Advisory Committee oversees the Open Space Plan for the Town of Dedham and works to increase public awareness and support of open or recreational space through education, advocacy for improved recreational and open space areas, and promotion of the use of land trusts and conservation or agricultural restrictions for suitable properties within Dedham.
