Dedham Police Log: TV While Driving, Shoplifting, and More

October 17
2:35 p.m. - An officer observed a vehicle leave Joe’s American Bar and Grill at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then went down Ariende Road at a high rate a speed and pulled into Washington Street that caused traffic on the road to break, police said. While following the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver was holding either a large phone or small tablet to his face. After police pulled over the vehicle on Eastern Avenue, the driver said he was watching an old television show on his phone. While the driver passed the field sobriety test, his ability to follow instructions was well below average, police said. Another person was called to the scene to drive the vehicle away and the original driver received a citation.

11:56 a.m. - A wild coyote was reported near St. Mary’s Church on High Street.

2:44 p.m. - A shoplifter was reported at Sears. The suspect will be summons to court for larceny under $250.
