DEDHAM, MA — With Halloween and trick or treating around the corner, the Dedham Police Department has passed along these safety tips for the annual Oct. 31 festivities:

  • Use costumes, beards, wigs that are flame resistant.
  • Do not use masks that cover eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Wear bright clothing, use reflective tape or flashing light clip.
  • Children should use the sidewalk whenever possible.
  • Small children should always go with an adult.
  • Trick or Treat at homes you are familiar with.
  • Children should never go inside of the house.
  • An adult should check all treats before eating.

Drive carefully if you are transporting your children from house to house. Watch for children darting out from between cars. Be sure safety belts are fastened at all times. Have children get out of the car on the curbside, away from traffic.
