One thing that we've learned from covering the local sports scene, is that no two weeks are alike. For the first three games of their season, John Maida's 7th grade boys scored an average of 53 points per game, while allowing their opponents an average of only 32 points.
The league tucked in game 4 on the Sunday before Christmas, and the boys traveled to a beautiful gym at the Weston Middle School. Defense was the name of this game, but thanks to Dylan Maida's 10 points and 3 rebounds along with Ty Scurry's 9 points and 5 rebounds, our boys were able to hold off their peers from Weston and win the game by a score of 39-33.

This past Sunday however, it was back to business as usual. The Metrowest boys returned to their home gym in a game against Newton.
Liam Dorsey, with a motor that never stops, was the star of this match, scoring 13 points, along with his 2 rebounds and 4 assists. It was Dorsey's early back to back 3 pointers (12-2 Dedham) and hustle on defense that took the wind out of the visitors sails.

Dylan Maida, Nick Loring and Davin Sweeney combined for 30 of Dedham's points, and the solid play of Ty Scurry (8 points and 9 rebounds) kept the home team out in front for the entire game. David Logan and Corey Kilroy combined for 8 additional rebounds and Mark Rella and Ty Rowell got the team's remaining points.
Brian Tavares played his usual strong game and his defense and speed helped hold the boys from Newton at bay. As the buzzer sounded, the final score of 55-38 saw Dedham win their fifth consecutive game of the season.
