DMS Student Reports Strange Man Asked Him to Get Into Van

Dedham Police will step up patrols in the area, they said Friday.

A seventh-grade student was stopped by an older man in a white van Wednesday afternoon, and then saw the van again on Thursday afternoon, according to Dedham Police reports.

The student was walking from DMS to his mother's work on Wednesday when a white van pulled up next to him near Eastern Avenue and a white male older than 60 stopped and opened the passenger-side door and gestured for the student to get in the van, police reports said.

The student told police that he said, "No, I'm all set" and walked away.

On Thursday, the student said he saw the same white van in the same area, but it didn't stop. The student was walking with a friend at the time, police said.

The boy described the van as a newer white van with doors that open on both sides. The man wore glasses and had short gray hair, according to police.
