The Friends of the Dedham Library Announces New Library Pass
Residents can now visit the New Bedford Whaling Museum at a discounted price!
The Friends of the Dedham Library are delighted to announce a new addition to our popular Museum Pass Program: The New Bedford Whaling Museum! From giant whale skeletons that dwarf visitors to an amazing scrimshaw exhibit, you’ll be pulled into the experience of life aboard a New England whaling vessel. Stand at the bow of the world’s largest model whaleship, the Lagoda, and watch as a Grand Panorama of a Whaling Voyage scrolls by, allowing you to experience what whalers saw as they left New Bedford and sailed the world in search of whales.
The New Bedford Whaling Museum was founded in 1903 by children of the founders of the American whaling industry. The Old Dartmouth Historical Society was established to create and foster an interest in the history of Old Darthmouth, which is now the city of New Bedford, Acushenet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven and Westport.
Also included in the admission is entrance to the Mariner's Home, a 19th century house originally owned by William Rotch Jr, whose family started an international whaling company. See what life was like in the 19th century and visit the exhibits, including on on Moby Dick.
