Owner Katerina Iliades, whose family has served the Boston Greek community for decades, says many of the foods enjoyed during Lent reflect long-standing Greek culinary traditions. “Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter when many families embrace traditional fasting foods rooted in the Mediterranean diet,” says Iliades. “The dishes enjoyed during this time — from beans and vegetables to seafood and olive oil — have been part of Greek culinary traditions for centuries.” During the Lenten season, many Christians avoid meat and dairy, turning instead to a vibrant variety of Mediterranean dishes that are naturally plant-based and deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition. At Greek International Food Market, customers can enjoy a wide selection of traditional homemade Lenten meals including: Okra in tomato sauce Greek string beans (fasolakia) Stuffed grape leaves (dolmades) Giant beans baked in tomato sauce (gigantes) Bean salads and Mediterranean vegetable dishes The market also carries a large variety of Lenten pantry staples and imported Greek products, including vegan Greek pies, Mediterranean vegetables, canned and dried beans, and an extensive olive bar featuring a wide selection of Greek olives. The books have been stored at the library on Church Street, which has been undergoing many improvements lately. The Friends' area is now slated for some work and all the books must be moved out, hence the RENOVATION BOOK SALE. The sale will be a week long with various hours during the week. For $5.00 you can fill up a bag (provided) of great reading material. The funds raised from the library books sale underwrites the Museum Library Pass Program, the children's summer reading programs, and other projects. The schedule for the RENOVATION BOOK SALE is: Tuesday October 10, 10am to 12 noon and 6pm. to 8pm Wednesday October 11, 10am to 12 noon and 6pm to 8pm Thursday October 12, 10a.m to 12noon and 6pm to 8pm Friday October 13 10am to 12 noon and 3pm to 5pm Saturday Octiber 14 10am to 3pm to 5pm
