UPDATE: Court Appearance For Man Charged In Murder Of Elderly Dedham Man Delayed

DEDHAM, MA — A man charged with killing an 89-year-old Dedham resident is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Nicholas Durfee of Roslindale is expected to be arraigned in Norfolk in Superior Court Monday. He was indicted by a Norfolk County Grand Jury on Sept. 8 and faces charges of robbery, assault, and murder, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's office.

On May 27, the victim, 89-year-old Ignazio Chermesino of Upland Road, hailed passers-by to contact Dedham Police following a home robbery. He was transported and hospitalized following the incident. He passed away on June, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's office.

An autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the death was a homicide. The final report was not received until August 2017.

Durfee was previously charged with unarmed assault to rob, assault and battery on a person over 60, and breaking and entering in the daytime to commit a felony. He has been held in lieu of $100,000 cash bail since his initial robbery and assault arraignment, according to the DA's office.
