MBTA Patriots Train Nearly Leaves Fan Stranded In Dedham

It was a race to get the train to Gillette Stadium by kickoff.

DEDHAM, MA — The point of the commuter rail to Patriots games is so fans can avoid the nightmare that is Route 1 on gameday. To avoid that, however, means trusting the MBTA to get you there without any major issues.

Sunday morning's trip to Gillette Stadium from Boston was anything but perfect, with the train breaking down in Dedham, worrying fans that they were going to miss opening kickoff. Usually, the train gets to Foxborough by 11:20 a.m., a solid 100 minutes before the start of the game. That was not the case this week.

Things got so bad that some were calling for Uber and Lyft drivers to come to Dedham, defeating the purpose of taking the train!

Eventually, another train was brought in to take the disabled train to the stadium.

Luckily, no one on the train missed the game, although that may not have been the worse thing considering the way the Patriots defensed played.

The problem was just another one for the MBTA, which has suffered from performance issues across their train lines. The red line has become notorious for signal problems and delays, riders on the commuter rail received free rides because their ticketing app known as mTicket went down, and we still don't know how or why a coach car disconnected from the a train on the Newburyport Line.
