New Dedham Middle School Principal Named

An assistant principal from Weston Middle School has been named the new principal of Dedham Middle School.

DEDHAM, MA — An assistant principal from Weston Middle School has been named the new principal of Dedham Middle School.

Dedham Superintendent Michael Welch recently announced that Karen Hillman has been appointed as the school's next principal. Hillman was chosen from a pool of four finalists and has been in her current position since 2011.

"Karen Hillman's faculty and staff from Weston Middle School universally praised her supportive and inquisitive manner, her deep knowledge of teaching and learning, and her vision for helping all students and teachers reach their maximum proposal," Welch said in a release.

Hillman, a Dedham resident, began her teaching career in 1997 as a Spanish teacher at Quabbin Middle School in Barre. She was the assistant director at the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education from 2003-05, an educational specialist for the Massachusetts Department of Education from 2005-08, and the assistant principal and dean of students at Randolph Community Middle School from 2008-11.

Hillman holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and Spanish from Holy Cross and a master's in education degree in administration, planning, and social policy from Harvard University.

She starts her new job July 1.
