Painted Flower Pots Come to Dedham
Four brightly painted flowerpots at Town Hall and Oakdale Square
Walk by Town Hall or the entrance to the park in Oakdale Square and you will see four examples of the painted flowerpot project sponsored by Dedham Civic Pride. With a grant from the Dedham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, Civic Pride put out a call to artist back in early spring.
Two artists were chosen to do two pots each. Cindy Previtt painted the pots at Oakdale Square with a grass and ladybug motif. Cindy is no stranger to public art in Dedham having painted the utility box at the intersection of Saw Mill Lane and Milton Street. Cindy also help to complete the utility box at the intersection of Milton and River Streets. Cindy studied art at MassArt for 3 years later finishing up her B.A. in Art and Art Education at Framingham State University. Along with painting the pots and utility boxes for Civic Pride, Cindy has also painted a piano for Celebrity Series of Boston, a rocking chair for Art Rocks at Boston Logan Airport, a life-sized fiberglass cow for the Boston Cow Parade and three murals for Team Haverhill in Downtown Haverhill.
The second artist chosen was Allie Falconer who painted the whimsical pots at the entrance to Town Hall on Bryant Street. Allie Falconer has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mass College of Art and Design where she studied painting and art education. She now works as a pre-k through 8th art teacher in Boston. Allie primary works in watercolor and her subjects include bold, colorfully detailed landscapes and animals. Allie is a mom of two boys 4 and 1 and is a resident of Dedham. Ally also had entries in the Art in Bloom 2019 exhibit. Her upcoming show at Nest will open on August 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
