School Committee Approves Possible Move to Tri-Valley League

Dedham High School will now apply for membership into the 10-school league.

DEDHAM, MA - The Dedham Marauders may soon say farewell to the Bay State Conference.

Wednesday night, the school committee unanimously voted to allow high school officials to draft a statement of interest and application to join the Tri-Valley League. The appropriate paperwork will be submitted to the league once the minutes for the past two meetings are approved by the committee.

The move is mainly motivated by school size. According to the MIAA’s enrollment data, Dedham High School is the smallest school in the conference.

“The Bay State Conference is an unbelievable athletics league it’s been great for decades, but I think it’s the students’ interest to move to a league that has schools with similar sizes,” School Committee Chairman Tom Ryan said.

Dedham High School Principal Ron McCarthy said school officials would meet with the TVL members in May, with no guarantee that they will receive membership.
