School Committee Endorses $42.8 Million FY19 School Budget

The budget still needs the approval of Town Meeting.

DEDHAM, MA — The school committee gave their blessing to next year's school budget.

The committee voted unanimously at their meeting Tuesday to support the fiscal year 2019 budget which comes in at about $42.8 million. The total is an increase of 3.65 percent over the current budget.

In state aid, the school district is projected to receive their biggest increase in years. A presentation on the budget indicates that Dedham will be allocated over $5 million with an increase of $445,577, which is 9.68 percent over this year's funding.

The base budget of about $37.5 million includes $1.3 million in level service contractual obligations, $48,000 for English language learner leadership and support, $40,000 for a teacher in the Early Childhood and Education Center library/Media Discovery Center.

The proposed facility budget has a slight decrease over this year thanks to a $278,000 reduction in a heating line item allocation.

The budget will get voted on at the May 21 Annual Town Meeting.
