Shop Local on Small Business Saturday

Saturday, Nov. 29 marks the 5th Annual Small Business Saturday. Pledge to support the small businesses in the Square and throughout Dedham!

Dedham Square Circle will support and participate in the 5th Annual Nationwide Small Business Saturday, on November 29, 2014. Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to strengthening the community by supporting local small businesses.

Small Business Saturday serves as the ceremonial kickoff to the holiday shopping season for small businesses across the United States. In 2013, nearly 1,500 Neighborhood Champions rallied local businesses and created events and activities to drive shopping at small businesses around the country. The day was also championed by elected officials in all 50 states and Washington D.C., including President Obama who took his daughters shopping at a local bookstore.

Dedham Square businesses are gearing up for what they hope to be a busy weekend, many of which are offering special promotions and discounts. “The concept behind Small Business Saturday is what we’ve been promoting since Dedham Square Circle was founded,” said Amy Haelsen, Executive Director of the Dedham Square Circle . “Supporting our small independently owned businesses is important for a number of reasons but perhaps most importantly, when money is spent at a local business a larger percentage of it stays right here in our community.”

“Making a decision to patronize the independently owned shops and restaurants in the Square – and around Dedham - makes a big difference,” said Haelsen. “By purchasing holiday gifts, dining and seeking services from small businesses, you’re not only supporting the hard-working businesses which support our schools, youth sports teams, and non-profits, you’re also supporting our own local economy,” said Haelsen. “Shopping locally is making an investment in our community.”

There is an added incentive to spend money at small businesses during Small Business Saturday. American Express Cardholders get a $10 statement credit, up to three times, from American Express when they use their registered or linked American Express Card on November 29th to make a purchase of $10 or more at a small business. Visit www.smallbusinesssaturday.com for more details. The majority of businesses in the Square accept American Express. For a complete listing visit www.dedhamsquarecircle.org.
