Spectra Asks Town Permission for Rectifier

Spectra Energy is back in town asking for permission to yet again ravage our neighborhood.

December 21, 2016

Dear Dedham Residents,

Spectra Energy is back in town asking for permission to yet again ravage our neighborhood. Over the past two years, Spectra Energy has raised serious concerns and opposition from citizens as it installs a high-pressured transmission gas pipeline through residential and commercial sections of Dedham and West Roxbury. This past week, Spectra Energy has asked the town to provide permission to install on the corner of East and Washington Streets a “rectifier”.

“A rectifier…converts normal power from an overhead transformer into an impressed current on an anode system. This anode system is laid underground alongside the pipeline, and provides cathodic protection on the pipeline once it is energized. Cathodic protection mitigates and prevents corrosion on the pipeline, if there is any issue with the coating.” (Dedham Board of Selectmen document, 12/16/15)

At the December 16th, the Dedham Board of Selectmen requested more information on the “rectifier” and for Spectra representatives to speak to the request at the next board meeting scheduled for January 7th.

Please join residents in asking the Dedham Board of Selectmen in stating NO to this new request from Spectra when it takes up the matter on January 7th. Send an important message that they are not welcomed addition to our town and neighborhood.
