Suspect in East Dedham Plaza Stabbing Appears in Court

Deon Carter was in front of a Dedham District Court judge Wednesday.

DEDHAM, MA — A Hyde Park man who police say stabbed two people and stole their car was ordered held on bail Wednesday.

Deon Carter, 28, faces two counts of armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and armed carjacking. He was arraigned on April 19 and was ordered held on $50,000 cash bail, according to court records in Dedham District Court.

On April 11, Carter allegedly met up with two people he met though a mobile sales app. The victims believed they were meeting with a person named Tim to buy a video game console. When they met in the parking lot of a restaurant on River Street in Dedham, Carter said he forgot his money and asked the victims to travel to his car near the Bank of America at East Dedham Plaza, according to a police report. It was in the parking lot that the sale turned into a robbery, with Carter allegedly showing a knife and telling the victims, "don't do anything stupid."

One person was struck in the chest and both jumped outside in an attempt to stop Carter from driving away in their vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Hyde Park.

Police connected Carter to the Dedham incident through a unique MTech knife and phone number used by Carter in the Dedham case and an unrelated Hyde Park incident. He was taken into custody April 13.
