Suspect in Dedham Stabbing Held on Bail in Unrelated Case

Deon Carter was arraigned in West Roxbury District Court Friday.

WEST ROXBURY, MA — A Boston man allegedly involved in a stabbing and carjacking in Dedham was ordered held on bail for an unrelated case.

Deon Carter was arrested Thursday night with the assistance of the Boston Police Department, according to the Dedham Police Department. Due to a warrant out of Hyde Park, he was arraigned on unrelated charges in West Roxbury Municipal Court Friday. He was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail.

The Hyde Park charges stem from an April 4 incident where prosecutors allege that Carter made arraignments on a mobile classifieds app to buy a PlayStation Portable game console and games from a person.

At 7:40 a.m., police received a report of a robbery in the parking area behind Laundry Queen on River Street. The victim told police that Carter got into his car, told him to drive behind Laundry Clean, and said "give me all your stuff," before taking the PSP, four games, a battery pack, cell phone, two IDs, and $425.

Police connected Carter to the Dedham incident through a unique MTech knife which was involved in both incidents and the phone number used by Carter in both incidents.

In Tuesday's Dedham incident, Carter contacted two new victims though an app. They had arraigned to conduct a sale in the parking lot of a restaurant on River Street in Dedham, but Carter said he forgot his money and asked suspect to travel to the victims' car near the East Dedham Plaza, police said. It was in the parking lot that the sale turned into a robbery and one of the victims was stabbed in the chest. The suspect fled in the victim's car, which was recovered in Hyde Park.

Carter's defense attorney said there was not enough probable cause to hold Carter in the Hyde Park incident, noting that the victims couldn't ID him. He added that anyone could have used Carter's phone and the knife is mass produced.

Carter is due back in West Roxbury May 5. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the Dedham charges April 19.
