Tree-Killing Bug Detected In Dedham

Emerald Ash Borer is a bug known to kill ash trees.

DEDHAM, MA — A pesky beetle with a habit of destroying ash trees has been found in Dedham.

The town's website issued a notice Friday that the Emerald Ash Borer has been detected in town. The beetle is an invasive bug that kills ash trees within just a few years of introduction. Although this time of year they are burrowed deep within the tree, the larva are chewing away inside, according to the town's notice.

To help save the trees, residents are asked to report signs of the beetles such as egg sites or exit holes on the trees.
