The winner will advance to the national championship for a shot at a $50,000 college scholarship.

DEDHAM, MA — Two students from Dedham will face off against some of the best students in the state when it comes to geography.

Fifth-grater Matthew Volfson of Dedham Country Day School and Tim Vaughan of Dedham Middle School both qualified for the National Geographic State Bee, to be held on April 1 at Elms College in Chicopee.

Contestants who qualified for the state Bee will be divided into groups for the preliminary competition. The top 10 students after eight preliminary rounds will advance to the finals. In the finals, all answers are oral with the exception of two written. The top two then move on to the championship, with the winner earning a trip to the national competition in May.
